Tech partnership gets seal of approval from British and Indian Governments

MediaCityUK tech hub forges global partnership to bring innovation and growth to British business

An Indo-British tech partnership forged between two leading tech hubs, The Landing at MediaCityUK and T-Hub in Hyderabad, was cited in a Statement of Intent yesterday (18 April) between the British Government and the Government of India at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London.

The partnership, which will inspire innovation and collaboration in the tech sector, was announced in meetings involving the Prime Ministers of both countries.

As part of the agreement, the two tech hubs will collaborate on the creation of an Innovation Bridge Programme which will promote innovation and accelerate growth in the tech industry through two very distinct and unique pathways, Market Access and CoCreate.

Market Access will be a bilateral exchange programme offering British start-ups the opportunity to accelerate their scaling in India and Indian start-ups the chance to establish their business in Britain. Businesses taking part in the exchange programme will have access to a wide range of support, including the localisation of their product or service and refining their business model for a new market. They will also be able to access tangible market opportunities with corporate clients and gain support from legal experts and the Government to understand local regulations.

CoCreate will be a business challenge that will bring together digital entrepreneurs and young tech innovators from Great Britain and India to solve large scale challenges set by big corporates. The programme will create tailored solutions for unique and specialist tech-related challenges provided by real companies.

The partnership between The Landing and T-Hub was forged during a recent visit to India by Paul Billington, commercial director at The Landing and is a core part of its international relations strategy. The Landing is the first tech hub and workspace in the UK to offer British tech businesses access to markets in India as well as an entry point into South East Asia.

Paul said: “Our unique partnership with T-Hub in India will bring fantastic opportunities to British tech businesses looking to set up in India but it will also connect small tech businesses with large corporates across both continents, giving them significant exposure on the global stage.

“To receive the backing of the British and Indian Governments is an incredible achievement and further cements our position as an international innovator and leader in the technology and innovation sector. We are now fully focused on launching these two new programmes so that British tech businesses can begin to reap the benefits of this unique collaboration.”

Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, said: “This is great news for Salford businesses and the digital and tech cluster at MediaCityUK. The partnership between The Landing and T-Hub in India is a good example of Salford working with the government to deliver the Greater Manchester Strategy and the nation’s Industrial Strategy, it is the Northern Powerhouse in action.  To see government recognising The Landing as a strategic international asset is real example of working globally and acting locally whilst showcasing our fantastic Salford businesses globally.”

The partnership has also received the backing of the recently formed Manchester India Partnership, Tim Newns CEO of MIDAS said: “We are delighted that The Landing is further strengthening ties between Greater Manchester and India, particularly in the highly dynamic tech industry. Collaboration on this scale is very exciting as it is only by working together and leveraging capabilities around new technology, talent, entrepreneurship and commercial opportunities and applications that we can truly innovate on a global scale.”
