Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries

Comprising four schools:

The vision of the Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries is to be the number one destination for the study of the creative industries, humanities and social sciences subjects, based on our partnerships with employers, our enriching global opportunities and our philosophy of enhancing learning experiences through cross-faculty collaboration and challenge. We aim to produce creative, reflective, work-ready graduates who benefit from our enviable links with industry and world-leading research-informed teaching.

The Faculty comprises four schools, approximately 6,000 students and 350 members of staff, and operates on a global stage, with numerous long-standing partnerships across the UK and around the world. We offer a wide range of courses in subjects such as architecture, art, design, fashion, media, performance, journalism, languages, history, philosophy and politics, amongst others. Our broad portfolio provides tremendous opportunities for students to learn and develop a deeper understanding about their subject by collaborating with others across the Faculty, including academic staff, who are all specialists in their chosen fields.

The Faculty undertakes ground-breaking and thought-provoking research, providing a foundation to increase understanding and engagement across diverse cultures. Understanding culture and communication is becoming more important as we are increasingly living in, and operating across, diverse communities. Our research contributes to this in areas such as sign language linguistics, art and design as a tool for change, language usage within cultural, social, political, institutional and forensic contexts, real-world philosophy; digital media and the digital economy; modern history eg labour history and labour identities and their relevance to the modern world.

Our research themes include: art and design; journalism, media theory and practice; language, linguistics, culture and society; modern languages and cultures; philosophy; and history.

We are proud of the fantastic achievements of both our current students, who excel in many areas of University life and beyond, and those of our graduates, who go on to high flying careers in a wide variety of industries and sectors.

The Faculty welcomes students from around the world and enjoys a highly stimulating and welcoming culture. Our students also have a wealth of opportunities for international study and work experience in the UK, Europe and around the world.

We enjoy close and collaborative partnerships with a wide variety of organisations, from both the private and public sector, which enrich the learning and research environments, and offer an extensive range of work experience opportunities and graduate roles for our students.
