An intro to fabrication, Internet of Things, APIs, electronics, 2D design, 3D printing (for digital & technology start-ups & SMEs)

A two-day fully-funded workshop based in the Barclays Eagle Lab maker space.
Taking place over 2 consecutive Wednesdays, this course is aimed at technology and digital start-ups & SMEs who want to explore a world of fabrication, hardware, packaging and anything physical linked to your technology.
You’ll work on two projects that will give you a hands-on intro to hardware, fabrication, coding and 3D printing.
Once you’ve completed the 2 days, you’ll have a strong understanding of how you can incorporate these tools and techniques to bring your technology into the physical world, and how you can further use the Eagle Lab to support you in this.

What you’ll do:
Project 1: GameFace
Program a game, design a hand-held device (to house a BBC micro:bit), and produce the housing on 3D printers or laser cutters.
Attendees will get an overview of using Python, and some 2D/3D design experience.
Project 2: Twitter Indicator
Build a Twitter-responsive light-up device, utilising the BBC micro:bit, laser cutter, and Node-RED. The outcome is a small device that lights up when particular hashtags or handles are mentioned on Twitter.
Attendees will be introduced to concepts of IoT, APIs, modular programming environments, and 2D design
Who this workshop is for:
Digital and Technlology Start-ups and SMEs interested in introducing hardware, fabrication, coding or 3D printing to your business – or how you can go about using to fully funded Eagle Lab kit for prototyping new ideas.
When and where:
The workshop will take place 10.30am – 5.30pm on Weds 4th July & Weds 11th July. You must be able to attend for all of both days. Lunch provided.

This programme is fully funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Please note that we can accept 1 application per eligible company. Eligibility criteria are:
- Digital, Creative or Technology SME (Small or Medium size enterprise)
- Annual turnover less than €50 million
- Balance sheet less than €43 million
- No other organisation may own more than 25% of the SME
- Greater Manchester Based
- 250 employees or less
- Company must not have attended another fully-funded 12 hour workshop programme provided by The Landing
